“Layers of Dhanmondi Lake” is the result of a month-long research project. During this research, the participants worked together to closely observe and study Dhanmondi Lake. Based on their daily memories, thoughts, and experiences with the people and the environment around the lake, they presented the lake’s story from many different perspectives. This project began on 27 November 2025, initiated by Goethe-Institut Bangladesh with the support of architect Saif Ul Haque. Through drawings, maps, installations, films, writings, and other creative forms, the participants shared their ideas about the social, environmental, and spatial layers of Dhanmondi Lake. They turned real-life experiences and research into creative expressions. |

Curated by Asif Iqbal, the exhibition presents all the works together, showing the many different faces of Dhanmondi Lake. Dhanmondi Lake is one of the most familiar places in Dhaka, yet it is constantly changing with the city’s urban landscape. Presenting its many-layered stories through a well-designed exhibition is truly commendable. The exhibition was inaugurated on 24 January 2026 and will continue at Goethe-Institut Bangladesh until 30 January 2026. |
