3 Bangladeshi projects win at 'ArcAsia Awards for Architecture 2025'

-

The work of Bangladeshi architects and architecture students has once again shown on the international stage. Two projects from Bangladesh have won awards at the ‘ARCASIA Awards for Architecture 2025’ and a Bangladeshi student has won awards at the ‘ARCASIA Thesis of the Year 2025’ (TOY 2025).

The ‘ARCASIA Awards’ are one of the most prestigious honors for architects across the Asian continent. These awards recognize innovative, sustainable and culturally relevant projects across a range of categories, from residential and commercial spaces to urban planning.

Ar. Enamul Karim won the Gold Medal in the Single-Family Residential Project Category for his project "Chaabi", a residential building on 3.9 bighas of land on the banks of the Shitalakshya River near Birabo Bazar in Rupganj Upazila outside Dhaka.

The "Chaabi House" project proves how aesthetics, functionality and culture can blend with world-class architecture.

The project ‘From Industrial Wasteland to Ecological Oasis’ has received a special award for ‘Socially Responsible Architecture’. The main architect of this project is Sharif Uddin Ahammed.

The project was done by ‘Shtapatik’ architectural consultant. The project is basically a landscape project. The project has worked on the complexity of the context or site and site-surrounding conditions and solutions for people and biodiversity. This award is in recognition of the attempt to create a common space using existing materials, especially for waterlogging (passive hydrological solution), wildlife drinking water or habitat management.

Ridwan Noor Nafis (Batch '17), lecturer at DOA, BUET (Department of Architecture, Buet), has been awarded the Gold Medal for his thesis titled “Urban Tune-Up: Architectural Packages for Block-Based Rooftop Spaces as Containers of Public Life”.

The thesis project was supervised by architects and professors Dr. Khandaker Shabbir Ahmed and Maherul Quader Prince. The project reimagines Dhaka’s rooftops as vibrant layers of public life.
