Project Description

পিছু ডাক is a single-family, three-storied residential interior project with a total built-up area of approximately 22,900 sq ft, located in Mina Para, Kushtia District. The project is conceived as a home that reconnects its inhabitants to their roots, where domestic life and community engagement coexist. The design is structured around a courtyard-centric spatial organization, allowing natural light, ventilation, and visual continuity to flow throughout the house.

Around this heart, the rooms unfold in serene layers. Curtains sway like slow-moving thoughts, floors reflect the shifting moods of daylight, and breezes drift through open passages carrying the familiar scent of rural air. In one corner, the library couch rests beneath a sky well—an intimate refuge where thoughts rise with the sunlight, a modern interpretation of an akhrabari where stillness becomes companion. As evening settles, the home transforms: a dark, intimate barbeque terrace glows with starry pin lights, creating a fragment of night sky brought down to earth, inviting warmth, laughter, and shared meals. The double-height living room becomes a theatre of shadows, its textured walls capturing the sun’s movement and turning it into a shifting mural throughout the day. On the ground floor, the family living space is wrapped in warm terracotta, honoring the grounded, earthy soul of Bangla architecture—handmade, humble, and rooted in land and craft.

The second floor is designed as a more intimate family zone. It contains three bedrooms with attached toilets and individual verandas, a family living space, a dining area with a dry kitchen, and a library that serves as a quiet retreat. A terrace further enhances the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. The loft floor accommodates an additional bedroom with an attached toilet and a barbecue area, creating a relaxed setting for social gatherings.

Through clear zoning, vertical hierarchy, and the courtyard as a unifying element, পিছু ডাক reinterprets the traditional village home as a contemporary multigenerational residence—one that fosters interaction, belonging, and continuity between family life and the surrounding community.

Detailed Description of Materials Used

Every material in the house, including timber, stone, terracotta, and concrete, has been carefully selected and unified through a consistent color palette to create a harmonious architectural expression. Simple, handcrafted furniture complements the design, while the dining area serves as the heart of family gatherings. Lounge spaces open toward the courtyard, reinforcing a connection to the home's central open space, and a lush green terrace brings nature closer. Together, the breeze, sky, and surrounding greenery create a calm, comfortable atmosphere where architecture and nature exist in quiet harmony.

The building is a reinforced concrete structure with exposed brick masonry, which provides a robust, low-maintenance surface while contributing to thermal comfort and a natural architectural expression.

The roof and terrace areas are treated with high-quality waterproofing materials to protect the structure from moisture. A roof garden and landscaped terrace are incorporated to improve thermal performance, reduce heat gain, and enhance environmental sustainability.

Openings are fitted with EDF-framed double-layer glass windows, which provide effective thermal insulation and reduce heat transmission. All doors are made of wood, selected for durability and natural warmth.

Interior flooring primarily uses polished marble, chosen for its cooling properties and suitability for the local climate. In the courtyard, flame-finished granite stone flooring is used for durability and slip resistance, combined with wooden decking to create a warm and inviting outdoor environment.

In the family living area, wooden flooring is introduced to enhance comfort and warmth. Terracotta-finished walls are used for their thermal performance and natural texture. Internal partitions incorporate woven fabric sandwiched between glass panels, allowing filtered light while maintaining visual privacy.
