A Short Brief of The Book: Several young architects, notably architect Kazi Khaleed Ashraf and architect Saif Ul Haque, initiated an architectural discussion in the 1980s and 1990s, inspired by architect Muzharul Islam. This discourse eventually led to the formation of a group known as 'Chetona', which focuses on architectural studies. Various constructive discussions and ideas regarding architecture or art would emerge in different circles of consciousness. Because of time constraints, architect Kazi Khaleed Ashraf and architect Saif Ul Haq trimmed these remarks or sayings for inclusion in this book. This book contains quotes by architect Muzharul Islam on many topics such as architecture, country, earth, nature, and practical knowledge. Here are some quotes from the book: 1. The task of an architect is very difficult here. You have to make it clear. On the one hand, we are plunged into confusion due to the political and economic situation. On the other hand, we are in a cultural conundrum where we have no image of ourselves that will form the basis of our work. Here we have to struggle on a number of fronts. One, there is the overall adverse social situation. There is the worldwide domination by Western culture. Then there are various tentacles of that domination that make the search for our roots an extremely difficult one. 2. The concept of a bungalow, the concept of a pavilion. It is intimately related to our climate and is a logical evolution from there. I do understand the difference between erecting a thatched house and a parliament building. But it’s the idea of a complex in a garden, and the garden and complex in the center of the city. The book includes attractive visuals of some of architect Muzharul Islam's creations. This book of red hard paperback cover inside cartridge paper will surely leave a mark in the mind of the reader. |
